China greatly loosens visa restrictions for STEM degree holders

GREATLY loosens! Even people with just Bachelor degrees are potentially eligible - and freshly-minted ones at that! If the degree is in robotics, AI, or new materials - and even if you don't have a job-offer from a Chinese company - you might be able to waltz into China and start marketing yourself.

This includes teachers in these subjects.

Well, maybe they have spotted a trend in the US. A recent Gallop poll cites that 40% of women of childbearing age in the US would leave if they could, even never to return. More men than before would like to move too, but the number of women is shocking. (Though not surprising, I personally would feel very unsafe to be a woman of child bearing age in the US, on top of feeling unsafe in general.)

Obviously, moving is very difficult and most will not have the resources to do this, but Breitbart was saying "yeah! Send them away, give them thousands of dollars to get out! We don't want them!" Deranged.

We hope to leave in a couple of years after Russet retires, but just don't know if it's possible.  We don't have enough money for the "golden visa" requirements that a lot of countries have, assuming our economy doesn't completely crash.  And as I'm at retirement age and she'll be medically unsuited to continue working at an observatory, we're not really employable and we can probably rule out work visas regardless.  What country would take retirees without golden visas with substantial medical costs that we could afford to live in for another 25 years or so until we die.

Not surprised at all. They want to pick up what America's putting down as we bleed from this self-inflicted wound we've got here. Make it easier to attract all the top talent that America used to attract.

Not a particularly surprising reaction, given that the United States is signaling and saying out loud that they're not interested in recruiting and retaining excellent talent in high tech industry (or any other, if it might mean having to let brown people in), and would instead prefer to have a country of land-tied serfs under the thumb of a few select rich people. Someone's going to try and pick up the slack, and at this point, China's the country with the most resources to throw at trying to absorb it. So long as you don't annoy the Party too much, you could probably have a perfectly good life in China, without even needing to learn the language.
