I liked it. It was a fresh take on Supes and Singer pulled it off well. I guess I sorta forgive him being yanked from X3 to take care of the Big Blue Boyscout. Spacey was wonderful as Lex, and I rather liked the woman who played Lois Lane because she was attractive, but not "stop a man dead in his tracks to look" gorgeous.

I thought the story was pretty clever and would have liked to have seen it explored a bit further, but it was already a long movie. Maybe they'll have a four hour version when the DVD comes out.

Anyway, like I said, quite liked it. Recommended.

Perhaps this isn't as much of a drop-kick/see it because it's Pixar as previous Pixar titles have been. Well, ignore that and go see it. The animation is the normal Pixar best of industry fantastic. The script is the normal Pixar better than most at animated screen writing quality. The talent was great, it was cool hearing Cheech Marin in his role.

But I should talk about the movie.

It's really, really good. The people who made it are serious gear heads. They paid amazing attention to detail, not that you'd expect much less from Pixar. I particularly liked the way a certain Porsche moved in the film: I could look at it and say "that's exactly how a Porsche moves."

I admit that, prior to seeing it, I was turned off by the overall theme. I'm not a Nascar fan, and I'm increasingly less of a fan of "turn left" racing. I like the "Formula" series where you see variety in tracks and can know that driver skill has a lot to do with victory. So that was a negative factor for me seeing this film. Well, we saw it anyway. And it was good.

And I shall give it the ringing endorsement and my highest accolade that I will be planning to buy it on DVD when it becomes available.

Fun, fun, FUN! My wife agreed to see it, probably mainly to humor me. "I know he likes weird movies, I can suffer through this for him." Well, Russet was laughing as much, sometimes perhaps more, than I was!

Basic story from the trailers: Mexican priest decides to become a luchador, i.e. wrestler, to raise money to feed the orphans. It becomes a personal growth flic, but it keeps itself light and funny all the time. Jack Black is very good in his role and carries it well.

Good story, good ending, and I loved the rabid Ewoks!

I doubt that I'll rush out and buy it on DVD, but if I come across a used copy at Bookman's or some place, I'll give it some consideration.

One non-spoiler comment. I'm not a big Superman fan. Never have been, never will. I liked the first two movies that they did in the 80's, particularly "Kneel before Zod, son of Jor-El!" Well, I liked this one. One of the problems that I've always had with Supes is that he is beyond perfect, yet he doesn't do as much as I think he should be able to do. DC sort of explored this 10-15 years ago when they did a one-shot Superman Saves Ethiopia (not the title, but it could have been) where Supes and others go to stop Ethiopia's famine and fail.

Anyway, since some of the rest of this could constitute spoilers for the film, I'm putting it under a cut.
