Terry Pratchett has a stroke?!

Fortunately a minor one and not terribly problematic, but it puts him at greatly increased risk of a serious one. And he has a new book out.

Quite honestly, he doesn't need to promote his work any more. In terms of popularity, he's below Stephen King and J.K. Rowling, but not by much. He probably knows that, too— his book tours are more favors to the fans than anything.

Very true. But a lot of authors like to meet their fans. As it happens, two friends of mine were attending a WorldCon and I think Terry was on their floor. Karyn was wearing a rather pushed up bustier and Pratchett was having a lot of fun ogling her.

Oh, he's quite nice. The first time I met him, I was sixteen and my mom grabbed him on the convention floor, pushed him over next to me, and said, "May I take a picture?" PTerry puts his arm around my shoulders and replies, "Of course you may take a picture, me and my dear friend... what was your name again?"

I met him again at ConJose, nine years later, and my mom tells him about the first picture, and he says, "You must have been very short." I said no, I was already that tall... and since I'd been hit on by a teenager earlier that day (in front of my husband, yet!) I spent much of the rest of the con wondering how old I looked...
